Congregational Care
Parish Nurse

Parish Nurses are involved in improving the health and welfare of the congregation and community. Some of the things that we do are:

  • Monitor members’ blood pressure
  • Conduct flu shot clinics and health in-services
  • Provide bulletin board and bulletin health information
  • Make home visits to homebound and sick members
  • Act as resource persons for health and caregiving issues

Anyone with a health background is welcome - nurses, physical, occupational or speech therapists, social workers, etc. Time commitment is anywhere from an hour a month to as much as they wish.  I spend about 10-15 hours per month between coordination and home visits. We work closely with the pastor, the Shepherding Committee and Meal Committee (Marg Anderson). We currently have only a few active members so we really could use more members so we can serve Bethel more completely.

Crafts for Christ

Crafts for Christ meets the first and third Sundays of each month following the second service.  The focus is primarily tied fleece blankets for the SERVE homeless shelter.  If you can cut and/or tie fabric, you’re welcome to join the group!

Our other major craft project is knitted or crocheted prayer shawls; knitters and crocheters of all levels of experience are also wanted.

Everyone is welcome, as are new ideas for how we can use our hands to do God's work.

Altar Flower Delivery

Delivering flowers after worship is one way Bethel cares for our members who are not able to be with us.  Following the second worship service, those who participate in this ministry deliver flowers to hospital patients, shut-ins or, if there was a baptism that Sunday, to the family of the newly baptized.

According to Manny and Jean Fontana who have participated in this ministry for many years, "This is such a good ministry - we get to know the people and they love the visits as much or more than the flowers."

Delivering the flowers and visiting takes about two hours each week.  If you would like to be part of this ministry, please contact Win Lightner.
