FIRST COMMUNION TRAINING – grades K-4

Please register by Sunday, April 21 for your child in kindergarten thru 4th grade to receive first communion instruction.  Forms may be found online and on the table in the narthex.  Classes are scheduled for April 28 and May 5.  Students and a parent or godparent must attend both sessions, which will include a lunch, following the late service.  Students participating in this session of instruction will receive their first communion on Sunday, May 12.

New Beginnings-newborns

Jean Fontana sends mailings to the families of young children (birth to 3 years). It involves a monthly newsletter to support families to fulfill the promises made at their child's baptism. The letters are educational, fun, and full of ideas for bringing faith into the everyday life of parents and children.

To request these mailings for your family, contact Jean Fontana or our Church Secretary, Debbie Mullinax.

First Communion

Description
Twice each year, we have age-appropriate instruction for children in preparation for their First Communion.  A fall session is held for those who are 5th grade and over.  This class is only held if there are youth who have not yet received their First Communion.  A two-class spring session is held for those who are kindergarten through 4th grade.  These children receive their First Communion on Palm Sunday.

Getting Involved
Parents are encouraged to participate with their child so that concepts discussed and explored during the sessions can be discussed at home.

Volunteers help children understand Communion through the use of music, games and story-telling; organize a lunch for students and their parents; and help the congregation celebrate those receiving First Communion by gifts and a reception in their honor.

Time
Depending on the task, the time required could be minimal to a few hours twice a year.
