FIRST COMMUNION TRAINING

FIRST COMMUNION TRAINING – grades K-4

 

Please register by Sunday, April 21 for your child in kindergarten thru 4th grade to receive first communion instruction.  Forms may be found online and on the table in the narthex.  Classes are scheduled for April 28 and May 5.  Students and a parent or godparent must attend both sessions, which will include a lunch, following the late service.  Students participating in this session of instruction will receive their first communion on Sunday, May 12.

Preschool Staff
PRESCHOOL STAFF:
Charlene Shepard, Director. Charlene has taught and directed Vacation Bible
School, taught Sunday School, substitute taught Preschool, and served in various
positions on the Preschool Board. She managed her own Home Daycare for 16 years
from infants to age 12. Charlene has been our most successful Director at
fundraising for the preschool.
Michele Blue, 5 day 4-year-old teacher. Michele graduated from Virginia Tech with
a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and completed an Elementary
Education PK-6 Licensure Program at George Mason University. She has taught
Kindergarten and first grade and coaches volleyball at Osbourn Park.
Dana Pannell, 5 day 4-year old teacher. Dana graduated from Virginia Tech with a
Bachelor of Science in Family and Child Development and also received a Master of
Science in Education in Early Childhood Special Education from Old Dominion
University. She has several years experience as a preschool teacher and also as a
special education preschool teacher.
Sande Neeley, 3 day 4-year-old teacher. Sande came to us with over 28 years of
teaching experience, 22 of those years as a preschool teacher. She has a Bachelor of
Science in Elementary Education with minors in Children’s Literature and Library
Science from Utah State University.
Kim Shaver, 3-year-old teacher. Kim has an Associates Degree from NVCC. Prior
to teaching at Bethel Preschool, she was a Teacher Assistant and Kindergarten
Assistant in PWC schools. Kim has also been a lead teacher for preschool programs
at her church.
Candice Ferguson, Teacher’s Aide. Candice assists in our 3 day 4-year-old class.
Candice has an Associates Degree in Medical Assisting. Prior to coming to Bethel
Preschool, she was a lead teacher at Caterpillar Clubhouse.
Andrea Kunz, Music Teacher. Andrea has a BS in Family Services/Social Services
from Brigham Young University. She is very active at her church and has run her
church’s children organization for 3 years.
Cheryl Asturias, Preschool Aide. Cheryl is our floating aide/substitute teacher. She
assists the teachers and director with anything that is in need of being done.
Our staff is certified in First Aid. Some also have CPR as well as Pmat
training.

Christina Gallagher, 3 day 4-year-old teacher. Christina  has a B.S. in Fitness & Cardiac Rehabilitation/Exercise Science as well as a double minor in Health & Nutrition. She also has a M.S. in Exercise Physiology. Christina has been a Religious Education Instructor at her church and was also was our permanent substitute for the last 2 school years. She also filled in as the Preschool Aide when needed.

Bethel's 6th-8th grade students attending Shekinah (an annual retreat) will be assembling kits for those kids participating in summer camps at Youth Haven this summer. We are inviting the congregation to be a part of this project by assembling kits at home, or purchasing gift cards for the camp. Included below are instruction on what to include. When you have assembled as many kits as you are able, please place them in one of the labeled cardboard boxes outside Elizabeth's or Bethel's main office door.
Please pack each kit in a ziplock plastic bag and label it "Girl" "Guy" or "Child"
Teen Girl: large-toothed comb, shampoo, body wash and puff, deodorant stick, toothbrush & paste
Teen Guy: large-toothed comb, shampoo, body wash, wash cloth, deodorant stick, toothbrush & paste
Child: large-toothed comb, kids' shampoo, kids' body wash, wash cloth, kids' toothbrush & paste
Gift cards for the camps, in any amount, from: Target, Giant Foods, Michael's Crafts, or Dollar Tree

The 6th-8th graders are going on a retreat in March, called Shekinah. For these annual retreats, we are asked to bring either a financial or physical offering. This year, they are asking us to put together some toiletry kits for children and teens with HIV/AIDS that attend a summer camp in the DC area.

Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction

Mark your calendars for the Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction on Saturday, February 11. Come out to taste Rich Improta's authentic Italian spaghetti as well as the opportunity to bid on some fantastic items during our silent auction.

 

Dinner tickets are $8.00 per adult, $4.00 for kids and children under 3 eat for free.

 

Donation request for the silent auction! We are asking for any items for donation to be auctioned for this event. Think of something you love to do, eat, listen to or watch and put that together in a themed basket. These items can be for babies on up! Some ideas are: a "baby boy/girl" basket, a spring gardener’s starter basket, a dozen cookies or a pound of fudge, even a wine basket. You can pair or team up with another person or family and offer tickets for a sporting event or concert, or offer a specific number of hours towards a service, such as babysitting, lawn care/mowing, pet sitting, etc. Please let us know what you are donating by completing a donation form. Forms are available outside Elizabeth Burnside's office and on the cart in the narthex. Donations may be dropped off to Elizabeth beginning in January.
